Objectives:

To gain an understanding of the hazards and risks posed by asbestos containing materials (ACMs) and gain the ability and knowledge to manage low risk work and safely remove certain ACMs.

Course Duration:

Course duration is 1 day or 1 ½ days with the UKATA Asbestos Awareness course

Who Should Attend?

This practical course is aimed at those who knowingly disturb low risk ACMs, such as those involved in demolition or construction works, general maintenance, electrical work, gas or heating installation, roofing works or shop fitting. May also benefit those who carry out asbestos sampling and analysis.

Course Content:

This highly practical course will cover all the requirements for training set out in Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations including personal protective equipment and decontamination.

The requirement to prevent the spread of asbestos will be explored and acceptable precautions explained with practical demonstration of some techniques for removal in our purpose-built facility.

Delegates will develop skills for non-licensed asbestos removal working with products that simulate ACMs within an enclosure gaining real experience of how it feels to undertake such work.

The requirements for waste packaging and emergency procedures will also be covered during the course.

Outcomes:

At completion, delegates will have the skills and knowledge required to remove or work on non-licensed asbestos materials. Successful delegates will be issued with an approved UKATA Non-Licensed Work with Asbestos Training Certificate (Category B).

Delegate Preparation:

The Awarding Body; UKATA (United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association) stipulate that delegates must have undertaken an UKATA Asbestos Awareness course within the previous 6 months, or have undertaken either an UKATA Asbestos Awareness Refresher or UKATA non-licensed work with asbestos within, the last 12 months.
