What are the benefits?

NVQ qualifications prove what individuals working on a site are skilled to do. By achieving a NVQ qualification, individual performance is measured against a benchmark set by the industry and regulated by the UK Regulator Ofqual, and are well-recognised qualifications within the construction sector.

There are no entry requirements and formal qualifications are not needed. There is no need to complete a lower level before undertaking a higher one. They are ideal for all ages and suitable for trainees as well as highly experienced employees.

NVQ’s not only benefit individuals working in the construction industry, but have been shown to improve the business performance of the employer by developing and retaining a trained, competent workforce, who are able to objectively view their own, and others’ work activities and operate in a professional manner whilst following nationally accepted standards.

How are they carried out?

Construction NVQs are achieved through practical assessment, on the job observation and questioning, and the completion of a copyright template that captures on-site work experience. The entire process is carried out on-site, using evidence from everyday work situations, without the need to enter a classroom or sit an exam.

Delegates work with a professionally qualified assessor to build a portfolio of evidence to record what they have achieved. The assessor reviews and feeds back how much still needs to be done and provides an action plan of how to achieve this. The process is repeated until delegates are assessed, having competently completed each unit.

How long do they take?

Delegates work at their own pace. On average, delegates complete their NVQ Diploma within 18 – 22 months. It is possible to achieve within an earlier time frame, which will be dependent upon the delegate, their workload and being able to undertake and provide evidence for each unit.
