Who should attend?

This 1 day course is aimed at those who have entered, or are about to enter, the construction and civil engineering industry as a member of the workforce to help them understand the potential hazards that they face at work on site. The course is designed to aid the understanding of potential hazards the construction worker may face on site.

The course is an ideal foundation for those wishing to obtain an industry site card. It is also an alternative route to the QCF Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment for the CSCS Labourer Card.

Course Content:

Delegates will gain an understanding of their individual responsibilities for their own safety and the safety of others on site.  Typical construction hazards and how these are controlled will be examined, demonstrating how everyone can help achieve better practical standards of safety on site.

Delegates will be made aware of their legal requirements and liabilities for safety and occupational health.  The course has a broad syllabus introducing delegates to construction health and safety requirements.

The course will cover the following; the need to prevent accidents, health and safety laws, how their role fits into the control and management of the site, risk assessments and method statements, performing safely and asking for advice and how to report unsafe acts to prevent an accident.

Outcomes:

Delegates will be expected to undertake a multiple choice test at the end of this course. Successful completion of this course is the first step towards a CSCS Labourers Card (Green Card). CSCS cards confirm that card holders have achieved a minimum standard of relevant health and safety training and can be used as a reliable method of checking that site workers have the appropriate skills to work on construction sites safely and effectively.

Certificates awarded will be valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, delegates will need to retake the course before the expiry date.

Delegate Preparation:

There is no specific revision material for this course and delegates will be provided with the relevant publication for the course.  However, delegates may benefit from studying the Health, Safety and Environment test revision book prior to the course.

Delegates must be competent in English at operative level. The course content is suited to all ability levels

Delegates must provide valid ID on the first day of the course, such as a passport or driving license.
