FREE Asbestos Awareness Training in conjunction with UKATA

Train Safe, Work Safe, Keep Safe

If you have no intention in removing asbestos, but work on buildings built or refurbished before the year 2000, asbestos could be present.  You will need asbestos awareness training so you know how to avoid the risks.

Sanctus Training are delighted to announce:

held at our purpose-built Asbestos Training facility in Cam, Gloucestershire

P1080196 for Asbestos Non Licensed

Sanctus Training Ltd
Units 4 & 5 Draycott Business Park
Cam, Dursley
Gloucestershire GL11 5DQ

The course aims to provide delegates with an awareness and knowledge of the hazards and risks posed by asbestos containing materials (ACM’s).  It gives an overview of the legislative measures in place to permit employees to safeguard themselves and others affected by work activities.  Successful delegates will be issued with a UKATA certificate valid for one year.

Statistics show that around 5,000 people die every year in the UK as a result of breathing in asbestos fibres. (

Damage caused to the lungs by asbestos inhalation can lay dormant for up to 60 years, and resulting diseases like mesothelioma are responsible for the weekly death toll amongst small traders that includes eight joiners, six electricians and four plumbers.

New CITB Temporary Work General Awareness Course to be delivered

Temporary works (TW) are the parts of a construction project that are needed to enable the permanent works to be built. Occasionally the TW can be incorporated into the permanent works. For further FAQs on temporary please visit the HSE website.

The HSE have also published a news article ‘Worker injured falling down a service riser shaft’ where a company was fined £120k due to the failure of planning and managing temporary works. A worker broke both ankles after stepping onto a temporary works structure which subsequently collapsed.

Following the success of the Temporary Works Coordinator and Temporary Works Supervisor courses Sanctus Training Ltd are introducing the Temporary Works General Awareness Course to the CITB Site Safety Plus course suite.

The Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) course is ideal for senior managers who control the planning, procurement and management of temporary works. Delegates will gain knowledge and understanding of the temporary works coordinator role and the management of the temporary works process covering; communication, co-ordination, co-operation and competency, along with risk management issues.

The Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) course is suitable for anyone on site who have a responsibility for supervising temporary works. The course will provide the delegate with thorough knowledge of the role, including a sound understanding of temporary works covering; safety and business relations, risk management and the importance of communication, co-ordination, co-operation and competency.

The Temporary Works General Awareness (TWGA) course is aimed at those who may be involved, but not responsible for the temporary works process including new entrants to the construction industry and anyone overseeing contractors managing temporary works. The course covers the importance of risk management and the need to plan for temporary works. Delegates will also gain knowledge of what may be considered as temporary works, the issues that may arise and the processes that should be in place to manage temporary works.

All three courses are supported by the Temporary Work Forum, CECA, UK Build, HSE and FMB.

UKATA Asbestos Courses at Sanctus Training Ltd

Asbestos can be found in any building built before the year 2000 (houses, factories, offices, schools, hospitals etc.) and causes around 5000 deaths every year.

Sanctus Training Ltd offer UKATA Asbestos Awareness and UKATA non-licensed asbestos removal courses at our purpose built Asbestos facility. We also deliver Face Fit Testing training which is ideal for those who need to carry out a qualitative face fit test on employees (sometimes called the taste test).

Asbestos can be found in many everyday building materials including ceiling tiles, floor tiles, textured coatings, insulating board, roofing felt, textiles e.g. old fire blankets and fuse boxes.

The HSE have recently published a number of news articles relating to companies being fined due to unsafe removal of asbestos – Employers have a duty of care to manage asbestos as highlighted in regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

The UKATA Asbestos Awareness course will allow delegates to develop an awareness and knowledge of the hazards and risks exposed by asbestos containing materials, Delegates will gain awareness of the key aspects of asbestos regulations and how they fit into the broader context of health and safety legislation.

The UKATA non-licensed asbestos removal course is a highly practical course. It explores the requirements and acceptable precautions with practical demonstration of some techniques for removal. Delegates will develop skills for non-licensed asbestos removal working with products that simulate ACMs within an enclosure gaining real experience of how it feels to undertake such work.
